Installing a new set of drivers

This section only applies to you if you have a default set of drivers (old or outdated set). This will only have occurred if AEI have issued a new driver set to you.

A common problem also arises if a capture card or TV card has been previously installed on the machine as similar drivers may already exist on your PC. But for this to have occurred you will have mistakenly chose the windows wizard to install your drivers when you first attempted to install the capture card. This is contrary to what we advise clearly in our instructions, but as we have found, some customers try it anyway and then spend hours reversing the mess they have created. If you are at this point you may also find that your TV capture card has stopped working and to reverse this you will need to reinstall the TV card drivers without using the wizard.

Q. How can I avoid such a mess in the future?

A. It is good practice when installing drivers to always select 'Choose drivers from a known location'. After all, you always have and know where the drivers are i.e.. in a folder on the CDROM that came with your application. Drivers for Stealth Big Brother are in a folder D:/drivers/ where D is the location of your CDROM drive.

Q. Why do I have to be so careful with your capture card drivers when on all other hardware I install I just let the wizard do it?

A. This is because the graphics chip used on our capture card is also used by many other TV capture card manufacturers. If the wizard wrongly associates our capture card with your TV card drivers (and it normally does) then your trouble will start. Remember that even if you remove an old TV card it will not remove the drivers from your system and the a complete re-load of your operating system never deletes or overwrites your drivers file.

1. Installing a new set of drivers

Access your Device Manager by right mouse clicking on the My Computer icon.

Enter properties.

2. It should look like this

Enter Hardware
3. And this

Enter Device Manager

4. Enter Device Manager to see this screen

There are now three devices that you must select and then by right mouse clicking choose update driver

This must be done firstly on

1. Multimedia Video Controller

2. CxVCap WDM Video Capture or BT878 WDM Video Capture

3. CxACap WDM Audio Capture or BT878 WDM Audio Capture

Of course they may well be called different names because of the drivers selected by the wizard.

If you don't see anything relating to connexant or brooktree (BT878 or BT848) you may need to remove the capture card and reboot to see what hardware no longer appears in this list. Then re-install the card and when they re-appear you know what to update.

5. Then click Hardware

Now select

Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install.

6. Click have disk

Now you will see a window that lists all the hardware on your machine.

Ignore this and simply click the box Have Disk

7. Back to 4 again!

Now proceed with the installation. Remember to go back three times to section 4 above. Each time you complete the re-installation your machine may ask you to reboot.
